The Princess Bride comes to Enid Public Library

The Public Library of Enid and Garfield County is hosting three events this summer tied to the book The Princess Bride written by William Goldman. Through the generosity of Park Avenue Thrift, the library has a supply of books to give away to the public. Book distribution will begin on July 7. Recipients of the free books are asked to attend at least one of the events tied to the book.

On July 28 at 6:00 PM, the library will show the movie The Princess Bride. A limited number of prop bags will be available. This is an after-hours event, so moviegoers need to be in the library by 5:45 PM. Along with the interactive movie, there will be a costume contest. Dress your best and you just might win a prize.

On July 29 at 2:00 PM, the library will show the movie again, along with a costume contest.

On August 1 at 5:00 PM, the library will host a book party and trivia contest. There will be refreshments straight out of Florin, such as rocks and swords, chips of insanity, Max’s MLTs, and sloppy ROUSs.

Included in the evening’s festivities is a scholarly presentation called A Closer Look at the Marvelous Book: The Princess Bride. Karen Neurohr will present amazing information and lead a lively discussion about the book The Princess Bride and its author William Goldman. Neurohr, a professor for the OSU Library’s Oklahoma Oral History Research Program, has been presenting book programs for a very long time. Previously, she taught high school English and was a library director. Dr. Neurohr loves to read, and The Princess Bride is one of her all-time favorite stories. She is delighted that her grandchildren enjoy The Princess Bride. Discussion topics for this program may be drawn from the Reading Group Guide at the back of the book.

The evening will conclude with a Princess Bride trivia contest. Match wits with each other to solve inconceivably difficult questions. Do you dare go in against Sicilian when death is on the line?

Grab your brute squad and head to the library this summer for true love and high adventure, pirates, princesses, giants, miracles, fencing, and a frightening assortment of wild beasts.
