Review: Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skill, Volume One
Review by Sarah
WARNING: Reading this light novel will make you hungry!
Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skill, Volume 1 by Ren Eguchi is far from the longest light novel title out there. Some of the chapter titles are longer than the book title, like Chapter 1 is “I Got Caught Up In A Hero Summoning, But Everything Seemed Incredibly Shady, So I Ran.” It is currently ongoing in Japan with 8 volumes, though only 5 volumes (soon to be 6) are currently translated into English. We currently only have volume 1 on Overdrive.
Mukohda is transported to another world, where it turns out that he is not a hero, but a ‘Victim from Another World’ that got caught up in a hero summoning. His unique skill is Online Supermarket, which everyone deems useless. Not trusting the country he was summoned to, he immediately flees the country and is forced to go on an adventure, where his unique skill helps him survive in a dangerous world with monsters.
I really enjoyed this book, though it did make me hungry with all the detailed talk about cooking food. I now want to try a food with red bean paste. There is lots of humor and cuteness. It only gets better with every volume. This volume focuses on Mukohda learning how to survive in the new world. Fortunately, everyone, including a disappointing goddess who loves sweets, loves the food he can make and/or buy with his Online Supermarket skill. Some beings are willing to do anything for good food, even become a familiar of a lowly human. I highly recommend this book. I’m also looking forward to reading the manga that just got licensed and will be out digitally in a few months.
Read it on Overdrive.
