Explore Race, Justice, and History at April’s Let’s Talk About It Book Club

The Enid Public Library’s Let’s Talk About It: Civil Rights and Equality book club series continues with its third discussion this year. The event will focus on Kevin Boyle’s Arc of Justice: A Saga of Race, Civil Rights, and Murder in the Jazz Age. It will take place on Thursday, April 17, at 6 p.m.

Boyle’s Arc of Justice recounts a landmark 1920s murder case that exposed deep racial injustices and helped spark the modern civil rights movement. The book explores race, justice, and legal reform in America during the early 20th century.

This month’s discussion will be led by Bryan Kimmey, a professor of English at the University of Central Oklahoma. Kimmey will offer insights into the historical significance of the case that shaped the fight for civil rights.

The Let’s Talk About It program, presented by Oklahoma Humanities, aims to bring communities together to engage in discussions about Pulitzer Prize-recognized works focused on civil rights and equality. The series encourages reflection, empathy, and community dialogue around the ongoing struggle for justice.

Each session begins with a 30-minute presentation from a literary expert, providing context and analysis of the featured book’s themes. Participants can look forward to two more discussions this year. The Plague of Doves by Louise Erdrich in May and Behind the Beautiful Forevers: Life, Death, and Hope in a Mumbai Undercity by Katherine Boo in June.Arc of Justice is currently available for checkout at the Enid Public Library.
