Oklahoma Shines Again on Enid Public Library’s New Globe
January 8, 2026
A new globe now greets visitors on the first floor of the Enid Public Library, replacing the previous globe that had been a favorite of patrons for more than a decade.
The original globe, purchased in 2012, had become worn from years of use, particularly from patrons pointing out where Oklahoma is located.
“The kids love to turn it and look at the different places on the globe, and everybody seems to really like to point at and say, ‘This is where we live here in Enid,’ enough that over the years it has rubbed most of Oklahoma off the map,” Library Director Theri Ray said.
The new globe was made possible by the fundraising efforts of local library supporter and patron Matthew Lewis.
“This is the culmination and completion finally, of a four-year project that I began with Ms. Theri Ray,” Lewis said. “I’m so pleased, and I’m so grateful. I want to thank each and every single donor.”
The globe was unveiled at the library on Wednesday, Jan. 7. Lewis looked over the new display with pride, highlighting Oklahoma and noting the city of Enid on the map.
The Enid Public Library thanks the community for supporting the project, which ensures that patrons of all ages can continue to explore the world from the library’s first floor.
