Library Seeks Teen Volunteers for Community-Focused Program
May 5, 2026
The Public Library of Enid and Garfield County is inviting local teens to get involved through its volunteer program, offering a chance to gain experience while supporting library services and the community.
Open to individuals ages 12 and older, the program is designed to give participants meaningful opportunities to contribute their time and skills in a public service setting. Teen volunteers can assist library staff with a variety of tasks while learning more about how the library operates.
Library officials say the program is intended to enhance services rather than replace paid staff, while also helping volunteers build responsibility, confidence and a sense of community involvement. Students seeking volunteer hours for school are encouraged to apply, along with anyone interested in giving back.
To get started, prospective volunteers must complete an application and participate in a brief interview with library staff. Those under 18 are required to have a parent or guardian’s signature before beginning service.
Volunteers are expected to follow library policies, including maintaining the confidentiality of all library information.
Library staff say the program not only supports daily operations but also strengthens the connection between the library and the community it serves.
More information about the teen volunteer program, including how to apply, is available down below.

Library Volunteer Program
The volunteer program at PLEGC creates opportunities for individuals to gain personal satisfaction while performing a valuable service for the community. Volunteers supplement but do not replace the efforts of paid library staff. A volunteer shall be considered as any individual, 12 years or older, who performs duties at the Public Library of Enid & Garfield County, without remuneration. Nothing in this policy shall be deemed to create a contract between the volunteer and PLEGC or City of Enid. Both the volunteer and the library have the right to terminate the volunteer's association with the library at any time, for any reason, with or without cause.
The library accepts as volunteers:
Individuals who have a desire to serve their community through library work.
Students participating in volunteer activities as an educational requirement.
Individuals participating in work programs provided by community or social service agencies.
The library does not accept court-ordered community service or volunteering as punishment duty. There are other volunteer opportunities in the community to satisfy these circumstances.
For volunteers under 18 years of age, a parent or guardian signature is required before service may begin.
MISSION AND GOALS OF THE VOLUNTEER PROGRAM
The mission of the PLEGC volunteer program is to give community members fulfilling opportunities to use their skills to enhance the lifelong learning of community residents; to assist the library staff in providing services and service enhancements that otherwise could not be achieved; and to further the relationship between the public library and the community it serves.
The goals of the PLEGC volunteer program include:
Recognizing and stimulating volunteers, so that long-term commitments are maintained.
Enhancing library services without relying on volunteers to supplant necessary paid positions.
Giving community volunteers opportunities to use their experience and expertise to communicate and to help implement library services.
RECRUITMENT AND SUPERVISION OF VOLUNTEERS
Volunteers will be sought through a variety of methods, to meet specific as well as general project needs. Prior to engaging in any activity, each volunteer will be required to submit an application form for volunteer work, and interview with a supervisory staff member. One staff member will be designated Volunteer Coordinator and will oversee the entire volunteer program.
Volunteers are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of ALL library information. Failure to maintain confidentiality will result in immediate termination of the volunteer.
All personal information about a volunteer is for internal use only and is confidential. The library will, upon request, provide a reference for a volunteer, if deemed appropriate.
