Enid Public Library Invites Students to Explore the Universe with YouthAstroNet
October 02, 2026
The library will bring back YouthAstroNet this fall, inviting local students in grades 5–9 to explore the wonders of the universe through a national astronomy initiative designed to connect young learners with scientists and real astronomical data.
YouthAstroNet provides students with hands-on opportunities to investigate space. Participants will be able to request real images from remotely operated robotic telescopes, analyze astronomical data, and explore fundamental questions about the universe while working toward their own final projects.
The library will host one six-week session beginning Tuesday, Oct. 6, and continuing through Nov. 10. The group will meet each Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. Each session will last approximately 2.5 hours and will conclude with a final exhibition showcasing student discoveries. All materials and supplies will be provided.
Registration is required, and space is limited. The registration form can be found on the Enid Public Library website. Those needing assistance with registration may call the library at 580-234-6313.
Program coordinator Mark Ambriz said the program offers a unique opportunity for students to engage directly with real astronomical tools and data.
“Wondered how space worked? Want to use a telescope? In partnership with the Smithsonian and Harvard, we present YouthAstroNet,” Ambriz said. “We’ll be using special telescopes provided by Harvard and Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics. We’ll use the tool provided to us to create a special project at the end of the program to display at the library.”
