Enid Public Library Allows You To Bring Your Home Movies Into the Digital Age
November 5, 2026
The holidays are a time for gathering, sharing stories, and looking back on favorite family memories. This year, the library can help you bring those memories out of storage and into the digital age with the VHS-to-digital converter in the Bert Clampitt STEAM Lab.
Have old VHS tapes tucked away in a closet? Bring them to the library and learn how to convert your home movies into digital files that you can save, share and watch on your phone or computer. Imagine gathering around with family during the holidays to revisit birthdays, family vacations, and celebrations from years past. No VCR required!
The process is simple, and library staff can help you learn how to use the converter and VCR. Digitizing does happen in real time, so an hour of footage would take an hour to convert. The machine includes a timer, allowing you to leave while your tape converts and return when it is finished. You will need to bring a flash drive to save your digital files. Additionally, download links to save the files directly to your phone may be introduced in the future.
The VHS-to-digital converter is just one of the many tools available in the Bert Clampitt STEAM Lab, where community members can explore creative projects at their own pace. Things such as sewing and embroidery, Cricut projects, 3D printing, and bookbinding are all opportunities offered for you to create handmade gifts for the holiday season. We're highlighting these creative possibilities through The Gift Lab: Handmade for the Holidays, encouraging everyone to turn their ideas into thoughtful, one-of-a-kind gifts.
The STEAM Lab’s guaranteed open hours are Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 4 to 6 p.m., and Thursdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to noon. A staff member will be available to provide basic instruction, answer questions, and help you get started.
This holiday season, consider giving an old family memory a new life. Stop by the Bert Clampitt STEAM Lab and discover how the library can help you preserve the moments that matter most.
