Teens are able to begin volunteering at the library when they are thirteen. Getting volunteer hours is very important for teens. Often school organizations require their students to accrue volunteer service hours.
Our teen volunteers are a vital part of our summer reading program. Without them we would be unable to provide the quantity of programs and incentives our patrons have been accustomed to.
Volunteers are trained to help with children’s programming and to present incentives to children who return their reading logs. Each volunteer receives a certificate at the end of summer reading with a total of the hours they served. This will be particularly helpful when teens are filling out job applications and need a reference, or filling out scholarship applications.
For students needing volunteer hours during the school year, special arrangements can be made by contacting the youth services desk.
