Join us on the Courthouse Lawn during May First Friday on May 5 from 6-9 pm where we will be registering folks up for our Summer Reading Program.

May’s Book Talk @ the Library will be a discussion on Sara Gruen’s At the Water’s Edge.  The discussion will be held on May 9th at 6:00 pm. Copies of the book are available at the service desk.  If all of the copies are checked out, please ask to have the book put on reserve for you.

Stop by and say hello at Enid Farmers Market’s opening day on May 13. The market is open 8-11 most Saturdays from May 13 through September. We plan to have our Pop-up Library there at least one Saturday a month. If you would be interested in volunteering with the Pop-up or with the Market, please let me know!

On Saturday, May 13th our volunteer Jody will be available from 10:30-12:30 with free knitting and crochet lessons.

Let’s Make Cheese! Make cheese in an hour?  Impossible you might say, this basic cheese making workshop will take the fear out of the process and prepare you for a future of fresh cheeses in your home. We will utilize Claudia Lucero’s book One-Hour Cheese. This workshop takes place on Thursday, May 18th at 5:30 pm.

When the library closes the crafters come out to play. An After Hours Crafters Lock-In is scheduled for Friday, May 19th from 6-9 pm.  Bring a project from home to work on, try your hand at book folding or weaving, or use materials and tools in our craft closet to craft to your heart’s content. Snacks and soft drinks will b provided. Must be 18 or over.

Summer Reading registration is open from May 1-June 15. The program kicks off on June 2 with an all-ages outdoor party on the library’s west lawn. This year’s theme is Build a Better World. Summer reading programs have traditionally concentrated on children, to keep them reading during summer break, but here at the Enid Public Library we include all ages from pre-school through adult. Registrants for the adult component will receive a packet with a calendar of events and contest sheets that will serve as entries for prizes. This year’s prizes include books, gift baskets, and a Kindle Fire! All contest sheets will need to be turned in by 2:00 on July 19th when the wrap-up party takes place. Adults do not need to be present to win. Look for more information about the summer reading offerings in the June newsletter.

The Friends of the Library is looking for members to give them new ideas and to help out with events and promotions. The Friends of the Library of Enid, OK supports the library by:

  • Volunteering
  • Sponsoring events, workshops, and programs
  • Advocating for library funding
  • Financial donations & purchases for the library
  • Managing the Friends Book Sale, planning special sales, and fundraising events

The next board meeting will be at 6:00 pm on May 8th. This is a great opportunity to see meet other members and see what you might be interested in helping with.

Sincerely,
